The Mississippi Justice Project Presents
The Danny McGleachie Story
Dianne's ex-husband, Danny, (they were divorced at the time) had been previously convicted of possession of Marijuana. Though Danny and Dianne did not live together and she was in possession of the drugs, in her home, (her and Danny were living separately) the police wanted to say that the drugs belonged to Danny because, under Mississippi's draconian "Habitual Offender" statute, possession by Danny would be a much greater crime.
Legally there was never any doubt as to who purchased the drugs and who had them when apprehended by the police. That was Dianne and she said so.
Through a series of lies, distortions, cover ups, and conveniently lost records, officials were able to convict Danny of "Possession with intent to sell". Danny has never been a dealer and, in this case, never "possessed" the drugs in question. His ex-wife bought the drugs with the proceeds of an insurance settlement and had no intention of sharing them with Danny.
Danny and Dianne had children together and he sometimes visited them. He was in the living room visiting the children when the police broke down the front door. Dianne was passed out in the back bedroom with the drugs and the balance of the money with her.
Danny was convicted of possession with intent to sell and sentenced to 60 years in the State Penitentiary. He will be 96 years old when released. He has already been there for over 9 years.
Dianne has spent that time trying to get someone to listen to the truth. If she succeeds then she might face prosecution herself but, she has continued anyway.
Two of the sworn affidavits she has tried to get officials to acknowledge are posted here.
This is merely a summary of some of the facts of this case when Dianne and Danny get time to provide a more detailed account, we will post it here.
Do you ever get the feeling that, no matter how hard you try, you just can't get anyone to listen to you? Now, imagine that you had committed a crime and wanted to confess but they still wouldn't listen!
Yes, that can happen and did happen to Dianne McGleachie. She purchased a small quantity of cocaine for her own consumption, consumed some of it, and was passed out with the cocaine in her possession when the police found her. It was an open and shut case of possession of a controlled substance but the police didn't want to see it that way. They wanted something bigger than simple possession and they didn't mind rearranging the facts to make it look like something else.
