The Mississippi Justice Project Presents
The Lewis Williams JR Story
Lewis Williams is in prison and has been there for 10 years already. He is serving 40 years for a crime he did not commit. He has no money for a lawyer and it is not certain that he would be able to find one who would be willing to help even if he had money.

Lewis was charged with the rape of a 31/2 year old little girl; the daughter of the girl friend to whom he was engaged to be married. Francis, the girl friend, stood by him. There was no evidence of any kind against him except for the testimony of two vindictive relatives who had an agenda which was not related to the welfare of the children. That and the coached testimony of three children who were under the control of the relatives and DHS social workers was the only evidence presented. Doctors could find no evidence that the little girl had ever been molested.

Francis lost her children and Lewis lost 40 years of his life. Both still maintain his innocence.

New evidence is now coming to light which may be enough to take the case back to court where it is virtually certain to be overturned. Lewis is waiting for a miracle. Francis is waiting for Lewis. Both are praying a lot. We will keep you posted!
